Why is language such a struggle for YD?

Just now I remarked to my own older daughter (age 13, has language delay, newly concerned with matters of personal appearance):
ReplyDelete"You look very sophisticated."
Her response:
"You mean sophocated?"
Me:
"No, I mean sophisticated."
Older daughter:
"Oh, OK."
